UN Human Rights Office Open Day and Stradivarius concert on Saturday 16 June 2018

GENEVA (14 June 2018) - The UN Human Rights Office will open the doors of its headquarters at Palais Wilson on Saturday, 16 June, from 10 am to 5 pm, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the 25th anniversary of the Office. The event has been organized with the support of the Swiss Confederation, the City and the Canton of Geneva.

The event will also be dedicated to the efforts of human rights defenders, civil society actors and every person working around the world to defend and promote the principles of the Declaration.

During the day, the public will be able to discover Palais Wilson and the work of the Office through guided tours and various activities. The programme includes film screenings, games for children, discussions and exhibitions.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein will welcome the Mayor of Geneva, Sami Kanaan), the Permanent Representative of Switzerland to the United Nations Office and to the other international organisations in Geneva, Ambassador Valentin Zellweger, and the Président du Conseil d’Etat of the Canton of Geneva, Pierre Maudet, at 16h00.

The entire UN Human Rights Office team is delighted to welcome the Geneva public to this Open Day, which will be followed by an exceptional concert at the Assembly Hall of the Palais des Nations at 18:30.

This concert is free and organized in partnership with the United Nations Office in Geneva, the Permanent Mission of Japan, the Nippon Foundation and the Nippon Music Foundation. This is a unique opportunity to hear the sound of Stradivarius violins played by world-renowned musicians.
